My Story
A Message from Cemal — Founder of THM Academy & THM Partners
I started my journey in hospitality at just 12 years old, working in my family’s takeaway. By the age of 20, that business had shut down and with it, the future I thought I was building.
I had to pivot fast. I jumped into a role as a server and cook at one of the UK’s fastest-growing QSR brands. I loved the pressure, the pace, the people — and the challenge of getting it right. I worked hard, learned fast, and eventually earned the opportunity to manage my own store.
The result? Chaos. My first few months were full of complaints, confusion,
and self-doubt.I wasn’t confident. I struggled with feedback. I avoided tough
conversations.I even remember needing to listen to a motivational speech just to have my first proper one.
But instead of quitting or blaming others, I doubled down. I listened. I improved the product. I rebuilt the systems.
I learned to lead. That store didn’t just survive — it started growing year on year.
I went from a nervous manager to leading leadership teams across the company.
From running a store to working with directors, shaping culture, systems, and developing other managers. From sweeping the floors to helping close contracts. I’ve done it all.
And here’s what I’ve learned:
